I live in mole country - I've killed 13 so far this year (May 6,'07), 23 last year, and 19 the year before. I install the fencing 8 or so inches below ground and up along the sides to above the surface in flower beds to keep moles completely out. For tomatoes, string beans, etc, I cage the roots. Moles seem to avoid corn, but not until the stalks are full size.
Before, moles dug through bearing tomato plants and killed them, buried grafts on new bareroot roses, pushed new plants out of the ground, and otherwise tore up flower beds. Now, they can't get in. I just laid a bed of bricks under our garden arbor, but first I laid this poultry fence several inches under it - neighbors put in a beautiful brick patio several years ago but finally took it out because the moles ruined it.
The fencing cuts easily with scissors and can be folded into corners when digging straight sides and square corners. The material won't rust out like metal poultry wire.
One caveat: gophers chew through it easily, so get rid of them ASAP.
